Treeferns history

We named the property "treeferns" because treeferns are prolific through out the property, when we first saw the property in 1996..

Some years after we moved in we were visited by some of the family who owned the property many years ago and who were back in the area to celebrate a 50th wedding anniversary. They were the children of the original owners and they sent us some photographs of the early days - scroll down to see a few of them.

The Bowraville road connects the towns of Bowraville and Bellingen, but has been closed south of us, because of storm damage in 2009. Some photographs of the storm damage and recent work on the road between us and Bellingen can be look at on the Bellingen/Bowraville road blog - http://bowbells.blogspot.com.au

The road was built in 1880 and was the main coach route travelling north and south, when the Pacific Highway did not exist.

regrowth of the forest

View of the forest in 1997

After neglecting to cut the grass for 10 years, we suddenly found that the forest has regrown

The following photograph show how the blackbutt eucalypt tree in the centre has developed over the years.

The trees surrounding it are now about 14metres tall.
